Monday - 1 Chronicles, Chapter 8
1. There is no way to know why the divorced wives were included in this list. If it was because they could not bear children, it broke the Mosaic Law which allowed divorce only if the husband found uncleanness. (Vs. 8)
Tuesday - 1 Chronicles , Chapter 9
1. Let us be aware that unfaithfulness to God could result in being taken in by the world system. Our minds and hearts can become hardened. (Vs. 1)
2. This chapter is concerned with the community of God's people; all Israel, after their return from exile in Babylon. The first verse gives the reason for their captivity, while the rest deals with the priests, Levites, and temple servants who God appointed to restore the true order of worship that was lost during captivity.
3. The repetition of chapter 8:29-40 is for the purpose of telling the story of the transition from Saul's death before moving on to the story of David.
Wednesday, 1 Chronicles, Chapter 10
1. This chapter is a historical summary of Israel's past starting with the monarchical era. The writer states the rejection of Saul, and the transfer of the kingdom to David. Saul died because he was unfaithful to God. (Vs. 13) He even consulted a Medium for guidance, rather than ask of God. Consulting Mediums, (those who call upon the dead for information) Horoscopes (looking to the stars for the future) Crystal Balls, or Fortune Telling, or anything other than God is an abomination to the Lord. If we have done any of these things, let us confess it to the Lord right now, and never do it again. If we need to know the future, let us Stay in the Word and ask of God!
Thursday, 1 Chronicles, Chapter 11
1. This Chapter begins David's story. Vs. 2-5 tells how he became King over Judah and then over all Israel. The writer of Chronicles omits some of the difficulties he faced. Compare this with 2 Samuel.
2. Zion was one of the hills on which Jerusalem stood. It was formerly the site of a Jebusite fortress that David had captured. The hill became sacred when David brought the ark of the covenant to Zion. Later the name Zion was applied to the city of Jerusalem. (Vs. 5)
3. Uriah the Hittite was one of the mighty men who faithfully gave David strong support. (Vs, 10) Yet, David took this man's wife for himself and had him murdered. David's sin was considered so terrible that he lived under God's punishment for the rest of his life.
Friday - 1 Chronicles, Chapter 12
1. During Old Testament times, the Holy Spirit came upon certain people with power and ability to do certain tasks which God called them to do. (Vs. 18) Today, Christians have the Holy Spirit within them to do the same and more. (Acts 1:8) Let us freely call upon Him when we need help; He is our Helper.
2. God has a season and a time for all of His purposes and their fulfillment. (Vs. 32) (see Ecc. 3:1) The men of Issachar are given special mention because they, from among Israel's twelve tribes understood the times and discerned what God was doing in bringing David to the throne as His anointed. Let us ask God for His discernment in times and seasons so that we can be given His vision during times of change.
Saturday - 1 Chronicles, Chapter 13
1. God's ways are higher than our ways. Let us not undertake to do God's work in our own way. (Vs. 7-10)
2. The Lord blessed Obed-Edom's family because he received the ark with reverence and in obedience to God. What brought death to one man brought blessing to another. (Vs. 14) Let us pray for wisdom and discernment, and seek God's way in all of our concerns.
