Stay in the Word - Week of May 16, 2010

Week of May 16, 2010

Monday - 1 Chronicles, Chapter 14
1. David's kingdom was exalted for the sake of God's people. (Vs. 2)Today, God  may raise a person up not for the persons sake, but in order for God's people to  be built up morally and spiritually.  Let us remember to pray daily for those in high  positions.
2. In David's time, God's blessing was measured in the number of sons and  daughters one had. Having many wives ensured that it would happen. (Vs.3) The  New Testament calls for a man to have one wife. When we read the Scriptures,  we have to look at them in the context of the times when it was written

Tuesday - 1 Chronicles, Chapter 15
1. To minister, is to "serve," to "wait on," to "attend to." (Vs. 2) Those who want to  become  "Ministers"  must know that this is the function for this office. All  Christians are also called to be "ministers," attending to the needs of others.  Today, minister to the Lord, tell Him how much you love and appreciate Him, and   find someone you can "minister" to through sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ,  and encouragement.
2. Let us remember that God's ways are better than ours. He knows best how to  do His work. (Vs. 11-15) Let us always follow His lead in accomplishing what He  wants done. Seek Him for His wisdom and direction.
3. Michal probably was upset because David removed his kingly robes, lowering  himself to the level of a priest. In her view he made a fool of himself before the  slave girls. She was more concerned with his reputation than the arrival of the  ark of the Lord. (Vs. 29) Let us always put God first in all things.

Wednesday, 1 Chronicles, Chapter 16
1. Michal probably was upset because David removed his kingly robes, lowering  himself to the level of a priest. In her view he made a fool of himself before the  slave girls. She was more concerned with his reputation than the arrival of the  ark of the Lord. (Vs. 29) Let us always put God first in all things.
2. God accepts spiritual and lively worship when the inward heart displays  reverence for who He is; purity; and an true desire to be near Him. (Vs. 29) Let  us commit to resist all that offends Him! When we do, the Holy Spirit will come to  our aid to help us.

Thursday, 1 Chronicles, Chapter 17
1. Nathan saw that God was with David in all he did, but apparently he did not  seek God before advising David. He saw nothing wrong in what David wanted to  do, but God had other plans. (Vs. 2) Before giving advice, let us always first seek  God's will for the situation.
2. The prophecy of Nathan includes a promise to David, known as the Davidic  Covenant, pointing to the rule of Christ. (Vs. 3-15) In spite of mistakes we may  make in advice giving, if we listen, God will come through to have His say. Praise  God for His patience with us!
3. David's response to the news that he would not build the temple is an example  for us as to how believers should deal with disappointment. (Vs. 16-27) Let us  remember this, and keep it in our heart.

Friday - 1 Chronicles, Chapter 18
1. "The Lord gave victory to David everywhere he went. (Vs. 6) As we look to the  Lord for wisdom and strength, and seek His face in all we do, He will help us in  times of  trouble. He will lead us by His Spirit. If there is a situation right now that  calls for wisdom and strength, seek God now!"

Saturday - 1 Chronicles, Chapter 19
1. "Dishonoring David's men was like a challenge to war. The act of humiliation  caused psychological damage which was stronger than imprisonment would  have been, and possibly even death. (Vs. 3-9) "
2. What did Joab say? (Vs. 12-13) Let us be brave also and fight for our city and  its people with the Word of God and its testimony. Let us take action with what is  not pleasing to God, by writing letters, making calls, speaking out in public  forums, and wherever God places us, to change the laws that need to be  changed, and bring in Godly laws. If we want to see victory, we must be willing to  war!
